I love how Raoul gets all kinds of crap for eavesdropping on Christine a grand total of twice. Because it's not like Christine called him out on it. And everyone knows Raoul was the one who manipulated Christine, kidnapped her, and blackmailed her into agreeing to marry him.

It's not as if he even intended to do it the second time -- he was just embarrassed at the prospect of getting caught writing a note to Christine in her dressing-room...

(From the story-external point of view, of course, it's necessary for Raoul to contrive to overhear those two scenes because he is the viewpoint character and the reader needs to know the information :-p)
